IRON HORSE Bike Show. Norcross, GA

Went out to a decent little bike show put on by the Iron Horse Taveren in Norcross, GA. Few cool bikes out there. The owner of the  local BMW dealer, Blue Moon Cycles, has a nice collection of vintage BMW, Ural, Guzzi’s and HD’s. He brought out a choice selection. A few nice customs turned out, both Big Twin and sportbike.  Spent a few hours hanging out with some of the peeps from customfighters.com and blokessportbikes.com. Not a bad way to waste a sunday afternoon.

This thing is pretty cool. At first glance, I thought it was a Walz Hardcore untill I got closer and noticed it was a custom Yamaha Road Star.

StreetKORE store upgrade

Just a quick update. Made a couple changes to the store. Hopefully it’s a little easier to navigate. Check it out.

Bandit tail swap

With my newly aquired welder it was time to fuse metal. My buddy brought by his 03 Bandit 1200 and the tail section from an 05 ZX10R. He handed them both over and said, make it work. Not a problem.

First thing was getting the rear end stripped.

Test fit the tail and start chopping out brackets.

Moved the seat latch plate and reused the removed grab rail for the retaining bar for the passenger seat.

Bodywork and seal latches in place with new tabs and brackets welded in.

The stock 1 piece seat was cut down into a solo, reshaped and recovered with the factory seat cover.

Front seat latch instaled, factory undertray cut down, welds ground down and the whole thing treaded to a few coats of Gloss Black paint.

And for a nice custom touch, we added a filler panel under the tail with a Custom Fighters Skully logo that is back lit with LED’s when you hit the brakes.

Here she is. Ready to hit the road.

New Welder

Picked up a cheap buzz box last weekend from my local Harbor Freight. I’ll start this post with a warning. Don’t ever lend friends your tools. Long story short, once upon a time I had a decent little MIG setup. Nothing fancy, but it worked well for what I needed. Lent it to a buddy and never saw it again. So now I got this one. Got a decent deal on it too. It was on sale for $89, marked down from $120. Once I got to the counter the cashier offered a replacment warrenty on it. I usualy shine on this but I figured I’d inquire what all it covered. Basicly, I can drag this thing behind my Truck, bring it back and they’ll replace it, no questions asked. for $20 I got the 2 year replacment and she knocked off an additional 15% . So out the door with tax and 2 year warrenty, $100. Not a bad deal.

I got it home, wired it up and threw an electrode in and strated welding. It’s not a bad little box. 120 amp peak on 220V, 70 amp peak on 115V. The amp adjustment is a little vauge, but once I got the hang of it I got it diled in to what I was welding.

Future plans are to convert it to a TIG torch so I can get a little bit cleaner welds and more control. It’ll still be a scratch start, but I can deal with that. And the Custom Fighters stickers make my welds 10x stronger :D

Get’n back at it.

We’ve been slacking on the Blog here for a bit. Been moving, working and consolidating our life over the past few weeks. Spent the past week Do’n Work on some bike stuff though. Post that up here soon with a bit more to follow.
