Savage Brat
The Brat Style influence has made it’s way into the StreetKORE garage. Although we decided to try it on an uncommon, and often overlooked base. The Suzuki Savage, AKA: LS650 or as it’s been baged in recent years, the S40. The big single may be designed as an entry level cruiser, but there’s much potential for a quick and easy custom. The tight frame, narrow front end and low slung seat lend themselves to an attractive profile. It’s just a matter of digging through the mass of factory installed mess to get to it.
We picked up the bike for a steal at $800. It was in a 9 out of 10 condition, running and ridding. We rode it straight to the shop and started chopping it up. The stock fenders were first to go. The rear being replaced with a modified rear from an CB400T. The suspension is rather tall out of the box. In order to get the right stance the lower shock mounts were cut lose and re-positioned 2″ back. We still have a solid 6″ of ground clearance and plenty of lean angle. For now, the factory tail light is retained and mounted to the rear fender. This project introduced a new StreetKORE product. The Bootlegger narrow T bars. Made from 1″ Steel tube. This particular set has 4″ rise with 2″ pullback, and a total width of 26″.
We have a few more plans for this bike. Lights, air cleaner and exhaust mods, paint and a new seat. As well as a general clean up of the wiring and electrics. Updates to follow.
